40 Years of Prego
We opened our doors in October 1986, at the start of a new dining era for Ponsonby Road.
Prego Restaurant has since become more than just a restaurant. It’s a place for everyone, for all occasions, affectionately referred to by many as an Auckland institution. For some, we are a home away from home.
Long lunches in the courtyard, family traditions, first dates, after-work drinks and anniversaries. Prego has been part of the community for four decades. The street outside has changed many times over. Restaurants have come and gone. Prego has survived recessions, renovations and changing dining trends.
But some things have not changed: our warm, familiar hospitality and classic Italian cuisine. It’s a simple formula that has kept four generations of diners returning to experience something they know and trust.
First visit to Prego?
We offer several spaces to enjoy the Prego experience.
Our outdoor courtyard is heated and a much quieter dining area, perfect for a business meeting or a work lunch. If you prefer to be amongst the hustle and bustle then indoors along the booth seats is the place for you.
We accept limited bookings on Monday to Thursday lunch. We also book our large banquet table which seats 15 people. This is perfect for birthday celebrations, baby showers or any large get-together with friends.
